Has a glitch been ripping off FIFA Ultimate Team fans?
Every year, FIFA is one of the most popular game releases. People love jumping into their favorite teams with their beloved players, enjoying the beautiful game and competing against their friends. And ever since FIFA 09, one of the most popular modes has been Ultimate Team or FUT. It earns FIFA a ridiculous amount of money each year has players spend more cash on packs of players for their custom team, over and above whatever they spent on the base game. It’s a huge money maker, but many players have felt it was broken for a while… and they might be right.
There is a glitch in the matrix. Okay, not in the matrix, but there is a serious glitch in the game. Here is a video by RighteousOnix (thanks Kotaku) showing exactly what happens:
And here’s a video explaining why it matters:
Thanks to these YouTubers, it’s become clear that the issue isn’t with the players themselves, but with their “chemistry”. This is a mechanism FIFA uses to simulate team cohesion, making good players even better when they play well together. So if this aspect is glitches and broken, no matter how much players spend on their Ultimate Team, their teams who should be showing a clear competitive advantage will instead be sluggish, slow to react and clumsy.
This isn’t just a frustrating glitch, or something quick and easy for FIFA to fix. FIFA fans have spent millions every year on their Ultimate Teams – have they been cheated out of benefits that they’ve paid real-world money for? Kodak reached out to EA and go the following response:
Thanks to the FUT community for raising awareness of a potential fitness and chemistry inconsistency in some FUT items. After hearing this, our teams were in over the weekend and continue to thoroughly investigate the information. We will keep you informed with updates from the investigation. Our commitment to a fun, fair and secure experience in FIFA is ongoing, and as a community your feedback helps us achieve that goal. A special thanks for your continuous efforts across all channels.
Let’s hope that this investigation is fair and thorough. As much as I’d love to see a quick resolution, this might be a deep rabbit hole that EA will need to fall down, especially once they fix it to ensure that players who spent their hard-earned cash on player packs get the improvements that they deserve.
